Probe on hospital execs sought on death of pregnant woman, unborn child

Officials of Ospital ng Sampaloc and Sta. Ana Hospital met with the city mayor on Monday in connection with an investigation into the death of a pregnant woman and her infant, GMA News reported.

Mayor Isko Moreno ordered the investigation of medical personnel connected to the death of Myra Morga.

Morga was rushed to the Sampaloc hospital.

The Ospital ng Sampaloc made Morga undergo an ultrasound to confirm the loss of her baby’s heartbeat but eventually asked her to transfer to the Sta. Ana Hospital as they did not have the necessary facilities to accommodate her case.

Before the transfer the hospital said Morga was stable. But relatives doubted this because Morga was pale due to excessive bleeding.

The patient was brought to the Sta. Ana hospital, where physicians said Morga needed eight bags of blood as the fetus had already separated from the placenta, causing massive bleeding that ultimately led to her death.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III also ordered an investigation into the case.

He added that the case was clearly an emergency, thus the victim should have immediately been transferred to another hospital by the Ospital ng Sampaloc.
