PH trial court to hear Mary Jane Veloso’s testimony in December

A trial court in the Philippines has set the deposition on the case of Pinay overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Mary Jane Veloso, who was convicted of illegal drug trafficking in Indonesia.

The schedule was released by the National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers president Edre Olalia. They said that taking Veloso’s testimony will he held on Dec. 12, 2019.

“Philippine trial court tentatively set on Dec. 12, 2019 the taking of Mary Jane’s testimony as the last prosecution witness by way of deposition through written interrogatories in Indonesia,” Olalia said in a statement.

The Supreme Court has granted the request to allow Veloso to testify through deposition in the human trafficking case against her alleged recruiters in Nueva Ecija.

The Nueva Ecija Court has given Veloso’s lawyer the final chance to present their witness before coming up with the decision against Veloso’s recruiters.

Veloso has accused Cristina Sergio and Julius Lacanilao for tricking her to bring illegal drugs to Indonesia which led her to the death row.

She was sentenced to death in 2010 but had a last minute save in 2015 after her recruiters were caught.
