The founder and CEO of the Chinese Huawei company, the world’s largest manufacturer of telecommunication equipment, said he decided to create the firm in 1987 to survive after he suffered from difficult financial conditions.
Ren Zhengfei told the Saudi daily Sabq that although he launched the company with a capital of only $7,000 its revenues reached $125 billion last year.
“I decided to found Huawei because I wanted to survive as I was passing through difficult conditions…later I started to consider it as my dream,” he said.
“But as you know, dreams change with the changing external environment…I have not expected the company to reach the level it has reached now.”
Asked whether he is worried after the collapse of the Finnish telecom giant Nokia, he said:”we always tell this to our employees…but I can assure you that we are here to stay because we care for development and innovation,” he said.
