2 Pasay cops nabbed for extortion

Following reports about law enforcement officers engaged in smuggling operations at the New Bilibid Prison, here’s one for the scoresheet of bad eggs in the police force.

Two policemen were arrested by fellow police officers after they were caught receiving alleged protection money from a bus operator in Pasay City.

Cpls. Reynald Pallangeo Macwes and Jimuel Ilagan Bernal were in their service uniforms aboard a patrol car when they were arrested in an entrapment operation, an inquirer.net report said.

The precinct commander of Pasay City Police Community Precinct 7, Capt. Mark Oyad was relieved from his post over the incident, said Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas, acting director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

Sinas said the entrapment operation was hatched after a bus operator complained that Macwes and Bernal were collecting P500 to P1,000 per trip from bus and van operators for them to continue their operations in terminals within the Malibay area.

Sinas narrated that last September 28, the bus operator was summoned by Oyad in his office to inform the businessman that the daily collection will be fixed at P1,000 for every trip of buses and vans.

Sinas said Oyad got irked when the bus operator did not give in to the demand.

Oyad allegedly threatened the complainant that he will be arrested for drug charges if he refuses to abide.

The bus operator then reported to higher authorities that led to the arrests of the two policemen. (CC)
