Dubai Customs handles 21 million passenger luggages on H1 2019

Dubai Customs Director General Ahmed Mahboob Musabih has announced that his agency was able to inspect and deal with at least 21 million passengers’ luggages from 11.8 million passengers in Dubai.

This means that customs officials rendered service to 80,000 flights at the Dubai International Airport in the first 6 months of 2019.

Dubai Customs head said that he is happy to be part of the Dubai International Airport’s success.

Dubai airport is the first in the world to implement automated customs procedures and facilitation of passenger traffic during holidays.

However Dubai Customs said that they continue to experience challenges in spite of the world class equipment.

“We keep innovating to help passengers visiting Dubai have a pleasant experience and to save them time and effort. For example, we have recently rolled out “ideclare” application which enables passengers to Dubai declare their belongings if needed in only 5 minutes, rather than 45 minutes” Musabih said.

Customs officials’ passenger operations group has seized 928 items during the 2019 first six months – 770 of which were criminal seizures while the rest of the 158 were customs seizures.

Officials said that they are intensifying security and anti-smuggling efforts in the airports.

There have various drug smuggling attempts in the airport of 1,129 kg of cocaine, 554 tramadol pills, 199 grams of cannabis, and 16,800 e-cigarettes.
