Russia plans to build North Luzon-Manila railway

Russian Ambassador to the Philippines Igor Khovaev has revealed Russia’s intention to help in the government’s infrastructure system.

“We are a railway superpower. We have a very efficient railway system,” Khovaev said.

The ambassador also expressed their intention to help construct a railway system that will connect Manila to North Luzon provinces.

“The Russia Railways, they are exploring the possibility of building railways to northern part of Luzon from Manila to Ilocos and to Cagayan,” Khovaev explained.

With this proposal the Russian ambassador believes this could help the traffic problem in Luzon.

In his latest state visit to Russia, President Rodrigo Duterte has invited investors to take part in the government’s infrastructure program.

“I invite you to participate in the massive Build, Build, Build infrastructure program, especially in transport and railway construction where Russia has high expertise,” Duterte said.

Russia Railways is a state-owned Russian company that operates more than 85,000 kilometers of railway in the northern country.

The Philippines is also working with China to create a massive railway system in the Southern part of the Philippines.
