MRT-3 not extending operating hours during Christmas season

The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 has announced that it will not implement longer operating hours this Christmas season as they start replacing the trains’ railways this month.

MRT3 Director Michael Capati said in a statement that management came up with the decision after assessing if they can go for extended hours due to the influx of passengers this holiday season.

Capati appealed for patience and understanding as they go into full blast rehabilitation.

Japanese-owned Sumitomo-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Ltd. is the current maintenance provider of MRT3.

“Maglalaan po muna tayo ng sapat na oras at panahon para sa rail replacement in the last 3 months of this year. Masyado na pong sira-sira at baku-bako ang ating mga riles kaya kinakailangan na po talaga itong mapalitan sa lalong madaling panahon,” Capati said in a starement.

“Kaugnay nito, hindi muna magpapatupad ng extended operating hours ang MRT-3 management upang magbigay-daan sa full blast rail replacement activities,” Capati added.

Capati has cited some benefits when the rail replacement is over: faster service and shorter waiting time.

Moreover, new rails can double-up the train’s capacity.

The target completion for the rail replacement is in February 2021.

“‘Yan po ang regalong nais naming maihandog sa aming mga pasahero hindi lang ngayong Pasko, ngunit sa napakarami pang paskong darating,” he said. (TN)
