The UAE’s top court ordered an employer and his assistant to pay Dh200,000 diya (blood money) to the family of a worker who was electrocuted to death.
A court of first instance had earlier sentenced the company owner and his foreman to three months in prison and ordered them to pay diya to the victim’s relatives after they were found guilty of negligence.
A court of appeals issued the same verdict, prompting the two to resort to the Federal Supreme Court, which upheld that sentence.
A technical report prepared by a committee appointed by court concluded that the worker died due to negligence by the company and its failure to abide by safety regulations for its employees.
