BREAKING: Duterte to cut short Japan trip due to ‘unbearable’ spinal pain

President Rodrigo Duterte cut short his trip to Japan after suffering an ‘unbearable pain’ in his spinal column, the Palace said.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo in a statement said that this could be a consequence of his fall during a motorcycle ride last Thursday.

“He will return to the country early evening today, October 22, and will see his neurologist tomorrow, October 23, for consultation,” Panelo said in a statement .

The President will miss Emperor Naruhito’s banquet tonight in Japan and Mayor Sara Duterte will replace and attend on his behalf.

“The Palace, however, confirms that the President has attended the enthronement rites earlier today, albeit carrying a cane to assist him in his walk,” Panelo said.

The Presidential Spokesperson added that there is nothing to worry on the president’s health.

“While this was unforseeable, the public can rest assured that there is nothing to worry as regards the physical health and condition of the President as he gives serious priority thereto in actively serving our country,” Panelo explained.

Duterte went to Japan to witness the enthronement of Emperor Naruhito.

Naruhito’s father, Emperor Akihito abdicated his throne early this year because of health reasons.
