2 Police SWAT members in hot water for sneaking contraband into Bilibid

Two policemen were caught allegedly trying to smuggle liquor and tobacco into the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) compound.

Because of the incident, policemen assigned at the national penitentiary will be closely monitored, said Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac per a report by inquirer.net.

Banac, spokesperson of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said the two members of the National Capital Region Police Office’s Special Weapons and Tactics (NCRPO-SWAT) unit were under investigation.

“The public can trust that we will not tolerate this illegal activity. This is saddening but we will not stop. This is a continuing challenge for us to reform the organization. Our reforms will continue until we instill discipline in our personnel,” Banac said in the report.

Maj. Alberto Tapiru, Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) spokesperson, said tobacco and alcohol hidden in bottles of iced tea were confiscated from the two NCRPO-SWAT personnel.

Tapiru said the contraband was intended for an inmate who was not identified by the two policemen. (CC)
