Abu Dhabi: Toll fines to be reduced by 25 percent

The Transportation Department in Abu Dhabi will be implementing a 25 percent discount on fines incured at toll gates.

His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Department of Transportation, has ordered that a motorist will only pay 75 percent of the fine if the motorist will pay within 30 days after the penalty was incurred.

The implementation of traffic toll regulations has been published in the official gazette.

The Transportation Department said that toll fines will take effect next year.

Monthly caps and fee exemptions were announced too.

“The system has been developed with the aim of reducing traffic congestion while limiting costs for residents. Once fees are implemented, senior citizens, retirees, martyrs’ family members, people of determination and low-income earners will be exempt, according to eligibility,” the DoT said in a statement.

Transport authorities also put a cap on monthly fees for private vehicles. Dh200 for first vehicles, Dh150 for the second and Dh100 each for additional vehicles.
