UAE reveals new ways to fight online extremism

The UAE has revealed its new move to fight the spread of online extremism and idealogies.

A joint effort with the United States, the Sawab Centre says it will now shift its focus on campaigning against the empty promises by the Daesh group or ISIS.

Using the hashtag #FateOfTerrorists – the group will expose the lies being used by the terrorist group to encourage and recruit new members.

The online campaign will run in different languages like Arabic, English and French. It will also appear on various social media platforms which will include Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

“Years after Daesh first appeared on the global scene, increasing numbers of Daesh terrorists and other violent extremists are facing the full penalty of the law,” the centre said in a statement.

The centre adds that the Daesh group uses propaganda to spred lies and manipulate people.

“Daesh uses propaganda and lies to manipulate people into joining its ranks. It promises them the chance to be part of a noble and blessed effort, a great adventure. But there is nothing heroic about murdering innocent people going about their daily lives, nothing right about destroying the social fabric of communities,” the centre added.

Sawab Centre has been encouraging governments to counteracy online extremism since 2015.

Sawab’s latest campaign will be rolled out from October 20 to 27.
