POEA gives tips on how to avoid online recruitment scams

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has intensified its campaign against online illegal recruitment schemes.

In an interview with CNN Philippines, POEA head Bernard Olalia gave some tips on how to spot illegal recruiters online.

Olalia said that it’s always better to meet personally with recruiters.

The POEA chief added that if the offer is too good to be true, it’s better to assess it on a more personal level.

“Do not negotiate or transact online, do it face-to-face,” Olalia told CNN Philippines.

Another tip is to demand that you have to see your employment contract first before paying for anything.

“Do not immediately pay. Pirmahan muna ang employment contract bago mag-bayad. Once may employment contract, for sure meron na kayong tinatawag na working visa,” Olalia added.

And lastly, it will also be useful to check if the recruiter or company is listed in the recognized recruitment agencies in the Philippines.

And if you are still in doubt, POEA said their hotline is open to assist aspiring OFWs.
