A 30-year-old Asian man is on trial in Abu Dhabi on charges of setting his workmate’s car on fire.
This, after the suspect suspected that the owner of the car, his friend, had caused his sacking from his job.
Court was told that the suspect got drunk and poured petrol on the car.
The unnamed defendant was convicted by a court of first instance and sentenced to six months in prison and ordered to pay Dh10,000 fine.
But his lawyer appealed the sentence, arguing that there is no evidence he was drunk and poured petrol on the car and that he made the confession under duress.
Local reports said the court of appeals is set to give its verdict on Oct. 27.
