Man lands in court for leasing flat that he doesn’t own

A man from another Gulf country is in court in Dubai on charges of leasing an apartment to an Arab expatriate although he does not own it.

The Gulf man, who is jobless, presented forged documents to the Arab photographer showing he is the owner of the flat and demanded Dh110,000 annual rent.

After paying him two cheques, the photographer asked the presumed owner to do maintenance work before he moves into the apartment.

Although one cheque was cashed, no maintenance work was done, and the presumed owner no longer answered phone calls.

Newspapers said the Arab reported the Gulf man to the police who arrested him on charges of swindling and forging official documents.
