An Arab man is on trial in Sharjah on charges of assaulting three policemen who tried to take him to the station after he was accused of trying to steal a woman’s mobile phone at a shopping mall.
Witnesses told court that the man kicked one cop in the belly and pushed the other two policemen then spat and swore at them.
When they managed to control him and take him to the police station, he threatened to publish a film online showing them using violence to arrest him.
In court, the defendant confessed to trying to steal the phone but denied he assaulted the three cops.
At the end of the session on Monday, the judge decided to adjourn hearings to Oct 28 for more witnesses and ordered the defendant to remain in jail.
