RTA introduces ‘Tech Taxi’ to taxi passengers in Dubai

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recently introduced Tech Taxi, which allows passengers to plug in their destination and get the cost prior to the start of the ride to ensure that they will no longer be taken on unnecessarily longer routes.

How does this work?

A passenger can simply utilize the value-added services via the free WiFi that is already available onboard.

This is among the several new initiatives that RTA announced during this year’s Gitex Technology Week at the Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC).

Khalid Al Awadi, director of RTA’s transportation system, said they are using Google technology for this.

They are also integrating services with Google for the oral translations with 26 languages available. Al Awadi said this would allow customers to speak with the driver in their language. A customer can also share live location with their friends or family, so they can track them online.

Apart from this, there’s also an available option for online payment that can be made at the end of the journey.

This service has already been introduced in 1,500 taxis. A taxi passenger just needs to visit taxiconnect.ae.

By the end of the year, they hope to expand it to all 10,000 taxis.

A customer can also order RTA taxis via the Careem app.
