Three foreigners stopped at NAIA due to fake travel documents

The Bureau of Immigration says it is now strictly monitoring foreigners arriving as transit passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The move comes after reports that syndicates are trying to use Manila as jump-off point for illegal aliens to Canada and other foreign countries.

BI said it is now tightening protocols and checks to make sure that international syndicates will not make Manila a transit hub.

“We should not allow these syndicates to negate the gains we have made by letting them use our airports as venues for facilitating the entry of illegal aliens to other countries,” Morente said in a statement.

The BI adds that they will monitor transiting passengers before allowing them to board their connecting flights to make sure they are legitimate travelers with valid documents.

“Transiting passengers caught with spurious visas and other fraudulent travel documents should not be allowed to proceed to their intended destinations,” Morente said.

Last month, two Pakistanis identified as Murtaza Ghulam, 29, and Sultan Muhammad Tayyab, 24, both bound for Vancouver, Canada were stopped at the NAIA terminal 2 for possession of fake Canadian visas.

Last Thursday, a Vietnamese was intercepted at the NAIA terminal 3 after he was caught using a fake Malaysian passport.
