2 Filipinos confirmed dead, 1 missing after Taiwan bridge collapsed

Two Filipinos were found dead after a suspension bridge collapsed in Southern Taiwan, MECO Taiwan Director for Admin Gerry de Belen confirmed.

“Positive ID on two fatalities. Pinoy. Isa na lang unaccounted for,” De Belen told reporters.

Two Indonesians were also killed in the Nanfang’ao Bridge in Yilan’s Su’ao Township accident. Leaving at least 20 people injured.

The bridge collapsed on the fishing boats underneath it including a fishing vessel manned by Filipinos.

More victims are feared to have been trapped in the rubble. Rescue operations are still ongoing but hope for more survivors is fading.

It remains unclear on what caused the bridge, which was built in 1998, to collapse.
