Survey: Filipinos still satisfied with Duterte’s war on drugs

Majority of Filipinos are still pleased with the Duterte administration’s war on drugs, according to the Social Weather Stations (SWS) second quarter survey.

The independent research institution found that 82% of Filipinos were satisfied with the illegal drug campaign, while 12% were dissatisfied. The numbers result in +70 net satisfaction rating, classified by SWS as “excellent.”

SWS said that 82% were satisfied mainly because drug suspects have lessened.

The prevalence of drug trade/drug suspects, meanwhile, is the top reason for being dissatisfied and undecided.

The June rating ties the excellent +70 in March also this year.

Despite criticisms, the campaign’s satisfaction rating has always been rated ‘very good’ or ‘excellent’ in the past 11 surveys. The highest rating of +77 was recorded in December 2016.

Human rights groups have claimed that the drug war death toll was at over 27,000, but the Philippine National Police said only around 6,000 were killed in raids where PNP claims many of the drug suspects resisted arrest.

Malacañang remains firm that the fight against illegal drugs continues despite a United Nations resolution that seeks to probe the alleged human rights abuses by the police.

The survey was conducted on June 22-26 among 1,200 Filipino adults nationwide.
