Swindler asks to be acquitted following not-guilty plea

An Asian company employee who swindled Dh3,000 from his firm in Abu Dhabi pleaded not guilty and asked to be acquitted during court hearings.

A court of first instance had sentenced him to three months in prison, and the verdict was upheld by a court of appeals.

The defendant appealed again with the court of cassation, which upheld the sentence after finding him guilty.

Newspapers said the man told court he borrowed the sum from his company and that he did not commit any crime.

But the court rebuffed his claim on the grounds the firm did not know he got the money and that what he did was a “breach of trust.”
