A court of appeals in Dubai doubled a five-year jail term for an Asian man convicted of raping a woman on a beach in the emirate.
The 46-year-old jobless man posed as a fake municipality official to stop the woman and her friend while swimming at a beach at night.
When he asked the couple to show him their ID, the woman said she left it at home while her friend walked back to the car to get his ID.
The fake public servant then asked the woman to walk with him to explain to her that swimming at night is banned.
“She walked with him to a rock area, where he raped her many times… her friend kept phoning her but the Asian seized the woman’s mobile and turned it off,” the Arabic language daily Emarat Al Youm said.
A court of first instance sentenced the man to five years in prison and ordered his deportation from the country, prompting him to appeal the verdict. The court of appeals sentenced him to 10 years in jail and ordered him deported.
