The Filipina who claimed she found the missing five-year-old boy in Dubai turned out to be his foster mother while his real mother has left the UAE.
The unnamed woman handed the boy to the Dubai police last week, saying she found him wandering alone inside Reef Mall.
According to a report by Khaleej Times published Sept. 19, police investigating the case later discovered that the woman was lying after they received a call from a man saying he knows the boy.
The man told the police that he has seen the child with a woman in Sharjah for nearly five years and that he knows where he lives.
Police found out that the woman who handed over the child is the same who has brought him up all those years and that she made that story up the whole story.
During interrogation, the woman reportedly said that the boy is the child of her friend, who left him with her before leaving the UAE.
She said her friend told her she wanted to go home for an urgent matter and would be back but she never returned for her son.
“The woman confessed that she made up that story because she no longer can care for the boy after he grew up and has to go to school,” the report quoted Brigadier Ali Ghanim, head of Al Muraqqabat police station, as saying.
