Seven Quezon City tanods nabbed for extortion, rape

Seven volunteer tanods of Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City were arrested for allegedly extorting money from a resident.

The suspects were also accused of raping the wife of the man who was accused of being a drug suspect.

According to the wife, eight barangay tanods broke into their house last Friday and arrested her husband for allegedly being in the drug watch list, as per a report from ABS-CBN.

The complainant said in the report that when they arrived at the barangay hall, they were told by the suspects that packs of shabu were recovered from her husband’s possession.

Suspects allegedly demanded P50,000, according to the wife, so that her husband won’t be jailed. The complainant also furthered that the tanods took their motorcycle since she had no money at the time.

She also added that she was instructed to borrow money from her relatives.

In addition, the complainant also told authorities that she was accompanied by the tanods but was shocked when she was brought to a motel where she was raped by two tanods.

The wife said they were told that they could only get back their motorcycle if they give P30,000.

The couple then sought help from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, leading to the arrest of three tanods.

Drug paraphernalia that were used to plant as evidence against the husband were seized from the suspect, police said

Four other tanods involved in the crime were turned to the police by village officials while another one escaped in an entrapment operation.
