A cleaner is facing jail time for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in Dubai.
The 23-year-old Indian suspect followed the victim from the communal swimming pool at an Al Barsha residential building and sneaked into the family apartment, as per a report from The National.
He then dragged the minor out of the apartment and took her to an emergency exit where he assaulted her, then went back to the flat.
The girl’s mother later returned to their apartment and found the man at their property, who claimed to be a maintenance worker.
“He said my daughter called maintenance complaining about the balcony door and he came to check it,” the mother said.
The mother, however, knows the man was a cleaner. She called the police, but the suspect immediately got out of the apartment.
The police tracked down suspect and was later arrested.
The suspect was convicted of sexual assault on a minor and trespassing during a hearing on Monday.
He will be deported after serving his jail sentence.
