Woman slapped with a fine of Dh10,000 for WhatsApp insult

A court in Ras Al Khaimah ordered an Arab woman to pay a fine of Dh10,000 after she was found guilty of insulting her daughter’s mother-in-law on WhatsApp.

The woman denied she threatened the other woman, but she confessed that she sent offending words to her mobile phone.

The lawyer of the victim showed messages on his client’s mobile phone to prove that she was maligned by the defendant.

The court acquitted the woman from charges of threatening her daughter’s mother-in-law, but found her guilty of sending insulting words, newspapers said.

The defendant was fined Dh10,000 in line with the UAE’s cybercrime law.
