PHL military knows local terror groups use drones

Local terrorists have the capability of using drones in conducting criminal activities, a military official said.

Colonel Noel Detoyato, AFP Public Affairs Office commander, told GMA News Online that the terror groups are known to use drones for surveillance activities during the 2017 siege of Marawi City, Lanao del Sur.

He added that they were aware that the terrorists had been using the devices even before the siege.

When asked whether drones can be used in an attack similar to the Houthi rebels in oil facilities in Saudi Arabia, he said the idea is “not a remote possibility.”
Detoyato refused to give details on the military’s plans on possible countermeasures, “that is already an operational matter.”

Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi group had taken responsibility over last Saturday’s attack Saudi Arabia attack, which was expected to cut the Middle Eastern country’s oil output by 5.7 million barrels per day or over five percent of the global oil supply.
