Cebu conducts air quality tests as haze covers key cities in PH

The Environmental Management Bureau in Central Visayas is ordering an air quality test around Metro Cebu following the presence of haze which is believed to have come from the forest fires in Indonesia.

Similar haze are also experienced in the skies of Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.

According to Engr. Cindy Pepito-Ochea of EMB-7, their teams are now conducting air quality tests to determine the amount of particulate matter found in the air over the metropolitan Cebu area.

If it falls on dangerous levels, the public will be immediately advised to wear protective gear or masks.

Metro Cebu is experiencing sunny weather since this morning with little or no cloud covers. There are no rains throughout the day. A lite brown haze in some portions of the skies is observed.

Generally, however, the skies remain bluish and the haze is not readily noticeable when viewed.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources central office has earlier warned of the presence of haze brought about by the forest fires in Indonesia.

The DENR said the presence of haze was observed in several cities across the Philippines including Cebu, Iloilo, Bacolod, Dumaguete, Puerto Princesa, Tagum City, and Koronadal City.
