Foreign Affairs secretary Teddy Locsin Jr. has lauded the honesty of the Dubai-based Filipina worker, Mae Anne Olmidillo, who returned a huge sum of cash worth Dh195,000 (Php9 million) to its rightful owner.
In a tweet on Saturday, Locsin said the country owes the Filipina “a world of gratitude” for exemplifying the “unshakeable honesty of Filipinos”.
He also quipped that Olmidillo should be emulated by “Filipinos in government”.
“The Filipino race owes her a world of gratitude for reaffirming the fundamental and unshakeable honesty of Filipinos not in government but abroad working,” Locsin’s tweet read.
The Filipina, a barista, made headlines across the globe last week after Dubai Police made a surprise visit to her work and recognized her honesty. She found the bag full of cash and cheques left by a customer.
Olmidillo said the recognition gives her pride and joy. “Hindi po ako nagdalawang isip na ibalik yung pera sa nagma-may-ari. Hindi po akin yun at alam kong may return si God para sa akin. Maraming salamat po,” said Olmidillo. (MN)
