Duterte to Customs: Remove brokers

by | News

Sep. 12, 19 | 8:38 am

President Rodrigo Duterte wants the Bureau of Customs (BOC) to remove brokers in a bid to rid the agency of corruption.

“Take away the brokers, and you would have cut corruption overnight. On a scale of 1 to 10, maybe you have reduced corruption to about eight, eight and one half,” Duterte said in Malacañang Tuesday night.

Brokers are licensed professionals who do all Customs requirements for importers.

The President proposed that importers appoint a single person who will be accredited by the BOC.

The president’s proposal comes after firing more than 60 BOC officials for alleged corruption.
