President Rodrigo Duterte will not be supporting the Sexual Orientation Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) bill and will not certify it as urgent.
“Actually what he meant was an anti-discrimination law or bill, not the SOGIE bill. Not that one,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo told CNN Philippines.
Panelo clarified that the President is pertaining to an anti-discrimination bill like the one he had implemented in Davao.
“He was referring in fact he said, ‘I have that, we have that in Davao.’ So he was really, specifically referring to that Anti-Discrimination Law in Davao,” Panelo said.
Panelo said that Duterte knows his laws and he cannot approve of what appears to be a ‘class legislation’.
“You cannot discriminate the handicapped, special children, the third gender, everyone,” Panelo said.
Duterte said that he will support an anti-discrimination bill in Malacañang, Tuesday night.
