Maid jailed 7 years for employer’s house fire

A court in Fujairah sentenced a housemaid to seven years in prison after it was convicted of setting her employer’s house on fire, a charge she denied.

The employer, a national, told court that the maid set his home ablaze with a lighter and that a large part of the house was destroyed.

He said none of the family members was hurt in the fire after they were evacuated and the fire was brought under control by the civil defence.

Newspapers said the maid denied she used a lighter to set the house on fire and that she herself was also surprised with the blaze.
