Explosion rocks central Kabul

An explosion rocked Kabul in Afghanistan shortly after midnight on Wednesday, as the world remembers the anniversary of the 9/11 attack on the United States.

The explosion reportedly happened near the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan.

An hour later, officials there at the compound declared there were no reported casualties from it. There were also no reported injured from the explosion in the nearby NATO mission.

In a report by Associated Press (AP), there was no immediate comment yet from Afghan officials about it.

This is the first major attack in Kabul since President Donald Trump abruptly called off U.S.-Taliban talks over the weekend.

Last week, two Taliban car bombs also shook Kabul last week. It killed several civilians including to members of the NATO mission.

The death of a U.S. service member in one of those blasts was cited as the reason why Trump called off the deal to end America’s longest war.

It is not yet clear whether Trump will resume the talks about it.
