An encounter with government troops on Wednesday morning in Patikul, Sulu resulted to the death of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) sub-leader Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan.

According to the report provided by the Western Mindanao Command, they identified the dead body of the terrorist as Nanz Sawadjaan, who was left by his comrades after the 20-minute firefights with troops from the Philippine Army’s 41st Infantry Battalion.

The neutralized terrorist is the younger brother of ASG sub-leader Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan. He was one of the ASG’s bomb experts who produced the Improvised Explosive Devices used in the recent suicide bombing incidents in Sulu.

The firefight left two soldiers wounded. They are currently recuperating at the Camp Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital in Jolo, Sulu.

An estimate of about 40 ASG members under Almujer Yadah, Ben Tattoh, and Apo Mike in Sitio Tubig Pansol, Barangay Langhub.

Most of them fled after they were overpowered by government troops.

Also recovered from the encounter site is one AK47.

“Our troops remain persistent in tracking down and neutralizing the remaining terrorists in Sulu,” Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana said.

“The successful operations of our troops are also attributed to the local community who feeds information, directing our troops to the terrorists’ location,” he added.
