Tourist arrivals in Philippines reach 4.85M in first seven months

The Philippines’ Department of Tourism (DOT) shared that the number of tourist arrivals in the country continues to grow to 4.85 million within the first seven months of 2019, an increase of 12. 36% compared to 4.32 million in the same period last year.

Korea remains at the top with the highest numbers of tourists heading towards the Philippines with 1,113,274 arrivals, closely followed by China with 1,038,409 tourists, as per a report from the Philippine Star.

Coming in 3rd are visitors from the United States at 663,116, while Japan and Taiwan complete the top 5 countries with 382,634 and 192,195 tourists respectively. 

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat in a statement attributed the continued increase in inbound tourists to the ongoing support from the respective countries’ government, as well as host communities, industry stakeholders, foreign travel trade counterparts, and investors.

“We remain inspired knowing that the private sector, other government agencies and civil society continue to support our sustainable tourism programs and the More Fun brand campaign,” she said.
