Japanese gov’t starts accepting Filipino language teachers

Through its 2020 Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme, the Japanese government is now accepting applications for assistant language teacher positions.

Filipinos accepted in the program will work in public or private schools, or local boards of education in the prefecture or municipality where they will assist Japanese teachers in English classes, according to a report by Philippine News Agency.

It was in 1987 when the JET program was introduced. It aims to deepen the mutual understanding between the people of Japan and those of other countries through a foreign language exchange and cultural immersion at the local level, the said.

In 2019, at least 5,761 participants from 57 countries, including the Philippines, were accepted. From two Filipino assistant language teachers sent to Japan in 2014, the number has already grown to 52 in 2019 alone.

The Japanese embassy urged interested Filipinos to visit the www.ph.emb-japan.go.jp/itpr_en/00_000147 or www.jetprogramme.org for more information.
