GSIS offers emergency loans for dengue victims

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is now offering emergency loans to active members and pensioners in areas with a surge of dengue fever cases.

The GSIS loan is open to members and pensioners from Samar province, Pontevedra and Sigma town in Capiz province and Sofronio Española town in Palawan province, which have been declared calamity-stricken caused by dengue, according to a report from the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The pension fund has allocated P663 million for an emergency loan for its members. Loan application would be accepted until September 22 for Pontevedra, Sigma and Sofronio Española.

Php20,000 loan may be applied by active members with no existing emergency load and old-age pensioners while Php40,000 loan can be applied for those who have not yet paid their balance from which the outstanding balance will be deducted.

Active members who are working and living on those calamity-declared areas, not on leave of absence without pay, have no arrears in paying monthly mandatory life insurance or social insurance premium contributions, and have no unpaid loans for more than six months are qualified for the said calamity loan. They should have a minimum P5,000 take-home pay.

They can apply through different GSIS wireless automated processing system kiosks in all the agency’s branches and extension offices.
