Twitter’s chief executive officer (CEO) Jack Dorsey’s account was hacked on Friday afternoon.
Before it was secured, the hackers were able to send tweets and retweets that included racial slurs and curse words to his four million followers.
The hacking happened after the phone number associated with his account was compromised due to a security oversight by the mobile provider, as per a report from Reuters.
The hacker was able to send tweets via text message using the phone number.
Despite this, the company said the hacking has not compromised Twitter’s systems.
Among the tweets from the hacked account made derogatory comments about black people and Jews. There was also one tweet that said Nazi leader Adolf Hitler was innocent.
The tweets were deleted an hour after the incident.
This is not the first, however, that Dorsey’s Twitter account was hacked.
In 2016, the account was compromised by a group that also hacked the Twitter accounts of Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
