Chiong sisters mother wants Faeldon to resign

The mother of the high profile 1997 rape-slay victims Marijoy and Jacqueline Chiong is calling for the resignation of Bureau of Corrections chief Nicanor Faeldon after reports surfaced that three convicts in the case have been released from jail.

In a text message today, Thelma Chiong urged Faeldon to resign because he has already “committed enough mistakes” in the government.

“To Faeldon, makarma sana siya. Tanong ko lang Is he making money out of criminals? Parang pay for your freedom and not the good moral conduct issue?,” Chiong said. “Dapat mag resign na si Faeldon. Marami na siya mistake. Faeldon resign na. Imagine mga criminal na hindi dapat lumabas pinalabas niya. What will happen to our country?”

Chiong said her family is very hurt over the reports of the release of three convicts in the rape-slay of her daughters Marijoy and Jaqueline. Thelma said she was crying and “breaking down” when she heard the news.

The reports said that three of the seven convicts in the case including Josman Aznar, Alberto Cano and Ariel Balansag have been released.

In 1997, the sisters were abducted in a mall in Cebu City by seven people convicted of the crime. A body believed to be that of Marijoy was later found at a remote cliff in Carcar City, Cebu while Jacqueline’s body is still missing until now.

Thelma added that the family is no longer pursuing any legal action against officials that allowed the release of convicts. She added that it would be up to the President to discipline his officials.

“Retired na ako, I am 67 years old. Hindi na kaya (to file legal action). Ipasa Diyos ko na lahat ito,” said Thelma Chiong.

Thelma also doubts reports that those released will be recalled. “How can he recall the convicts back to Muntinlupa?” she asked.
