Groom has ‘lost hope’ after deadly wedding blast

A GROOM in Afghanistan is still in a state of shock and grieving after a suicide bomber turned his wedding into a bloody incident— killing 63 and wounding more than 180 people.

Speaking to Tolo News, Mirwais Elmi said his bride survived but his brother and other relatives died in Saturday’s blast.

“My family, my bride are in shock, they cannot even speak. My bride keeps fainting. I’ve lost hope. I lost my brother, I lost my friends, I lost my relatives. I will never see happiness in my life again,” Elmi said.

“The wedding guests were dancing and celebrating when the blast happened,” one of the wounded wedding guest told AFP news agency.

The Islamic State (IS) group has admitted carrying out the bombing which President Ashraf Ghani described as “barbaric.”

He blamed the Taliban for providing a platform to terrorists.

In the wake of the incident, Ghani postponed major celebrations for Afghanistan’s 100th Independence Day on Monday.

Attacks across the country continue amid ongoing peace talks to try to end the 18-year US war.

Meanwhile, The Taliban continue to launch attacks as they negotiate directly with the US government while refusing to meet for official talks with the Afghan government.
