DOT reports over 4.1 million foreign arrivals for first half of 2019

The amount of tourist spending in the Philippines is up 17.6 percent accompanied by a notable increase of 11.43 percent in the number of foreign visitors in the country compared to 2018’s records, reaching 4.1 million in footfall on the first six months of 2019.

Tourists visiting the country spent an estimated US$4.7 billion or P244.4 billion on first few months, with South Koreans and Europeans toping the top spenders based on the data from the Department of Tourism, as per a report from Business Mirror.

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat said in 2018, 5.4 million jobs were generated contributing 12.7 percent or P2.2 trillion to the gross domestic product of the Philippines. She cited the tourism industry’s contribution to this development.

On the data, South Koreans spent $1,304.13 per person based on 846,025 arrivals on the first six months making the total expenses to $1.23billion or (P64.14 billion) while the French nationals who are second in rank spend $1, 287.44 per person based on the 52,960 arrivals making $68.18 million (P3.55 billion).
