The Abu Dhabi Police have expressed caution on the dangers of motorists reversing their cars.
The warning comes after reports of parents accidentally hitting and killing their children, who happened to be at the back of the vehicle, after failing to look at their car’s rear view mirrors.
Large vehicles or more commonly known as 4X4s make it difficult to see small children behind.
A 17 year-old girl died in April after a neighbor’s car ran over her while she was playing at the back of the car.
“Parents should follow even the simplest driving rules while parking outside their homes,” the Abu Dhabi Police said in a statement.
Authorities also advised parents not to check on their phones while reversing the vehicles at all times.
“Answering a call while parking also distracts the driver and could easily cause a crash,” the statement added.
A safety reminder video was released by the Abu Dhabi Police to warn motorists and take extra measure to ensure that no children will be on sight when reversing their cars.
The video has been viewed more than 14,000 times.
