DFA warns Pinoys in Hong Kong against job offers in Turkey

The Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong warns Filipinos about job offers in Turkey without proper coordination with Philippine authorities or through the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).

“Nitong mga nakaraang buwan, may mga kaso ng mga OFW na iniwan ang kanilang mga trabaho sa Hong Kong at sa Singapore upang lumipad mula Pilipinas patungong Turkey na walang karampatang papel mula sa POEA kasama na ang Overseas Employment Certificate,” the DFA said in a statement.

The DFA said that these OFWs who opted to work in Turkey lost their legal status in just a matter of 2-3 weeks.

The DFA said that only ‘intermediaries’ are allowed in Turkey or those people who are helping employers to process the required documents for newly hired workers.

The DFA added that intermediaries don’t have legal responsibility to workers.
