‘Bawal ang Epal’: Manila changes wifi kiosks from ‘ISKOnek’ to MNL Konek

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has ordered to change the name of the Wi-Fi kiosk launched on Wednesday which bears the name ‘ISKOnek’ a combination of the Manila mayor’s name and the word ‘connect’.

After drawing flak from netizens and ‘epal’ accusations, ‘ISKOnek’ transformed into ‘MNL Konek’.

Moreno has repeatedly insisted his anti-epal stance, but netizens are quick to point out that adding your name on projects makes you ‘epal’.

Manila Public Information Office said that it was their partner Eastern Communications who decided to call it ‘ISKOnek’.

“In line with our open governance policy, we listened to the frustration of the netizens regarding our anti-epal policy,” Manila Public Information Chief Julius Leonen told reporters.
