The United States Embassy in Manila has warned Filipinos especially those applying for visas to watch out and avoid dealing with scammers.
It cautioned applicants to be wary of promising successful visa applications and even jobs abroad.
Embassy’s Consular Section, Fraud Prevention Manager Leon Gendin said scammers use various social media platforms to attract potential customers.
“The common typical scam involves a scammer who claims to have some influence over visa processes or visa service that the US Embassy provides,” Gendin said.
Some scammers would also promise ‘too good to be true’ job vacancies to attract potential victims.
“If someone claims to have an influence of process or guarantees a visa, the public should know it is a scam. Because no one can guarantee a US visa,” the Embassy added.
