A woman from another Gulf country took her husband to court in Fujairah after he smashed her mobile phone following an argument.
But the husband ridiculed his wife’s demand for compensation on the grounds he had bought her the phone and is still paying for it.
The unnamed husband, acting as a lawyer for himself, told the judge that his wife has no right to sue him since the phone is in his name.
“He said that he had not hit his wife and only smashed the phone in a moment of anger… he said that he had bought the phone for her so she has no right to take him to court,” the Arabic language daily Emarat Al Youm said.
The paper said the judge decided to postpone a sentence to give the couple time to reach an out-of-court settlement.
