SSS rolls out cash assistance for unemployed workers, displaced OFWs

The Social Security System (SSS) is rolling out its new insurance program for laid-off or terminated workers.

The new unemployment insurance seeks to help workers who lost their jobs and are in need of financial assistance.

Unemployed workers who can avail of the financial assistance program should be an SSS member, who has contributed for at least 36 months and not older than 60 years-old.

If the application is approved the SSS member can avail of 50% of his/her salary bracket.

The current salary bracket has Php2,000 minimum which requires Php80 contribution while the highest bracket is at Php20,000 with contribution of Php800.

So, for those who has minimum contribution, the unemployed worker can receive Php1,000 for two months while those with the maximum contribution can receive Php10,000.00 for two months.

“Short-term lang ito. Financial assistance during the time na nawalan sila ng trabaho,” an SSS official told ABS-CBN News.

Unemployed workers need to present two government IDs and a certification from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

To get the DOLE certification, an applicant must present a valid ID and a notice of termination from their employer to make sure that the loss of job was due to retrenchment, bankruptcy or redundancy.

Employees who were forced to resign because of maltreatment can also avail of the insurance.

“The employee can just execute an affidavit of termination that he was forced to resign due to unbearable treatment,” DOLE told ABS-CBN News.

Household workers and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) can also avail the financial assistance as long as they get a certification from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration.
