Vice President Leni Robredo called for an investigation on the surge of Chinese gamblers in the country and questioned its legality.
“Kung iligal sa kanila (China), bakit tayo ang nagha-house? ‘Di ba?,” Robredo said on her weekend radio show.
The influx of Chinese workers was brought by the ban on the gaming industy in mainland China.
“Ang tanong nga, bakit natin pinapayagan dito na iligal nga sa kanila? Iyon iyong number one. Pangalawa, parang hindi nga masabi kung ilan eksakto iyong nandito na sa atin eh. Sobrang dami na, na hindi alam iyong numbers,” Robredo said.
The government said that it will go after foreign workers and collect taxes estimated to be at Php2 billion.
The Labor department, on the other hand, said it will strictly implement its new guidelines and procedure when accepting and allowing foreign workers to the country.
