An Asian man caught trying to smuggle drugs to Bahrain told court that the stuff does not belong to him and that he was only acting as a messenger.
Customs men at Manama Airport found several plastic bags containing drugs in the man’s bag and a small amount concealed inside his shoe sole.
In court, the unnamed defendant told the judge that he was given the drugs by a man in his home country to deliver it to a woman in return for 750 dinars ($2,000).
“He claimed he did not possess the drugs and was only acting as a messenger… but the judge found him guilty and sentenced him to five years in prison, fined him 3,000 dinars ($7,600) and ordered him deported from Bahrain,” the Bahraini Arabic language daily Akhbar Al Khaleej said.
