The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) halted the applications of all new hires bound for Sudan amid rising concerns on security in the area.
The suspension will also involve seafarers with ships taking a route to Sudan.
The POEA said the decisions comes after the advisory from the Department of Foreign Affair (DFA) indicating the imposition of Alert Level 2 on Sudan, setting into motion preliminary restrictions on travel by Filipinos.
The DFA said it is risky and there is uncertainty in state of land transport in Sufan that could potentially affect Filipino workers traveling to their job sites.
Massive protests are being held in the country calling for the resignation of President Omar Al Bashir.
Papers of returning workers will still be processed and restrictions will be imposed on them in light of this new order.
